Basic Training - San Antonio, Texas

No rest for the weary!! After graduating from Dental School on June 8th, I hopped on a plane for San Antonio with four classmates to begin the Army's Officer Basic Training in San Antonio. I had been here for four days when we all got back on the plane and headed back to Portland for our dental licensing exam. When we got back from that exhilerating experience, we headed out to the field to begin what became a glorified scout camp. If shooting guns, learning how to read maps and a compass, sleeping in tents with A/C, driving around in hummers, and hanging out with the guys sounds fun....your right. The highlight was when I got the highest score in our class of 300 by shooting 28/30 of the pop-up targets with a 9mm pistol. They tell me I qualified for the "Expert" rating!!! I think I shot a pistol once when I was twelve for a Young Mens Activity! I was out of my head!! The blisters have slowed me down a bit (breaking in boots sucks!!), but my spirits remain high. The course is six weeks and today marks the half way point. To celebrate, Kristine is coming down to San Antonio to visit and check up on me. Its been hard to be away from her and the boys, especially since she has been doing ALL the leg work to get our family all packed up for the big move to Germany. We're extremely excited about this new chapter in our family's life. We hope to use this site to keep you updated. Check back often!! Love, Steve-0
